NotifyMD, the medical-messaging service company that last year moved into a former MBNA call center in Farmington, announced this morning that it will open a second call center in Winthrop that will create 200 jobs.
The Tennessee-based company has leased 21,500 sq. ft. of space in the Carleton Mills Building for its medical-messaging call center, according to Matt Jacobson, CEO of Maine & Co., a Portland-based business attraction firm. Jacobson told Mainebiz that after NotifyMD opened in Farmington it expected to open its next call center in Missouri. Instead, the town of Winthrop and Maine & Co. began aggressively selling the company on another Maine location. "They were looking at Missouri and we got them to look here," Jacobson said. "They had such a good experience with the workforce in Farmington and the town, and they like it here."
NotifyMD operates centers that act as a "virtual doctor's office" and an interface between doctors' offices and patients, Jacobson says. NotifyMD will begin accepting applications for the Winthrop jobs today, he said.
