Occupy Maine to dismiss lawsuit against Portland
Occupy Maine plans to dismiss a lawsuit it filed in December against the city of Portland so it can focus its resources on community service.
The group, part of an international movement for socioeconomic fairness, sued the city to challenge its decision to evict it from Lincoln Park. Earlier this month, a Superior Court judge turned down Occupy Maine's request for a preliminary injunction that would have allowed the group to continue camping overnight in the park. The group will ask a judge to dismiss the suit with plans to devote resources to "service to the community," according to the Portland Press Herald. Occupy Maine said it will hold a protest in Lincoln Park on Wednesday and continue to hold weekly meetings in the park on Sundays.
Occupy Maine has also begun producing a television show at the community access studio in Portland called OccupyME TV, and episodes can be watched on its website, www.occupymetv.org.
