Ocean State Job Lot will take over an Augusta space formerly occupied by Christmas Tree Shops.

Ocean State Job Lot is set to open an Augusta store this fall in a former Christmas Tree Shops location.
The store is 34,154 square feet and is in the Turnpike Mall, at 42 Whitten Road.
Ocean State Job Lot, which is based in North Kingston, R.I., is a discount retailer with 153 stores in the Northeast. The Augusta store will be the company's eighth in Maine and first in Kennebec County. For now, the closest store locations are in Falmouth and Belfast.
The new store will also be the fourth former Christmas Tree Shops site that Ocean State Job Lot has moved into. It is taking over former store sites in Warwick, R.I., and Avon, Mass., through acquisition, and in Pembroke, Mass., with a lease. The Augusta store is also a leased space.
Christmas Tree Shops announced plans in July 2023 to liquidate its stores, including Maine locations in Augusta, Bangor and Scarborough.

At the Turnpike Mall, Ocean State Job Lot will join Harbor Freight Tools, Hobby Lobby, Convenient MD, Hannaford and Petco.
“Our bright, friendly and value-focused shopping experience is the perfect complement to the offerings of our co-tenants, and we look forward to opening the doors to Mainers later this year," said Tom Croteau, district team leader for the Rhode Island company.
Up to 50 people will be hired for the Augusta store, including full- and part-time employees, as well as seasonal workers.

Ocean State Job Lot, founded in 1977, has 5,600 employees across its 153 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Annual sales exceed $800 million.
The chain sells household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products (holiday, gardening, patio, pool and beach supplies), and kitchen pantry staples at a discount.
