Online tool to connect employers, interns

The Maine State Chamber of Commerce has launched a new online tool to connect businesses with student interns.

The Augusta-based chamber and Gov. John Baldacci yesterday announced the free website, InternHelpME.com, an idea that came out of a jobs summit hosted by state officials and business leaders earlier this year and modeled after a similar program in Indiana, according to MaineToday Media. Chamber President Dana Connors said the program could begin matching businesses with college and graduate student interns by early next year, and students will be able to create profiles beginning in November.

The goal of the website is to help Maine students gain work experience and strengthen the state's work force. "All of us are about improving the economy, it's on everyone's agenda, and we believe this program will help," Connors said at yesterday's announcement, according to the media group.
