Orono is Maine's fastest-growing municipality, followed by Westbrook, Scarborough, Gorham and Windham, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's latest figures.
The U.S. Census Bureau ranked Orono as Maine’s fastest-growing municipality, followed by Westbrook, Scarborough, Gorham and Windham.
The Forecaster reported that officials from those municipalities said they made the list because of how “attractive” they are to residents, with relatively low tax rates and a strong sense of community as prime factors in the attraction.
According to the bureau, the findings are based on population rise between July 1, 2015, and July 1, 2016.
During that period, Orono’s population increased by 521 residents, Westbrook by 364, Scarborough 236, Gorham 178 and Windham 173.
