The inaugural Maine Startup and Create Week was a success and exceeded organizers’ expectations, chief organizer Jess Knox told Mainebiz on Tuesday.
Next year’s conference is already being planned, he said, adding that he hopes to have the 2015 conference dates set by August.
Knox said he estimates approximately 3,000 people attended the 44 events held from June 12 to 20 in Portland, celebrating Maine’s community of entrepreneurs, innovators and startups. Those events included Portland Startup Week, discussion panels about various issues and subjects and networking events held throughout last week.
Knox said over 700 people registered for the conference itself, which gave them access to the daily panels. Some of the events, including the networking ones, did not require registration.
“I couldn’t be prouder about how the community and the state embraced the companies at the conference,” he said. “It exceeded all expectations, which I think is a testament to this kind of discussion, giving companies the ability to showcase themselves” and giving people an opportunity to discuss ideas and issues surrounding startups and innovation.
For people who might have missed Maine Startup and Create Week and want to experience something similar, Knox said there are a number of events they can choose from. That includes the Juice Conference being held in Rockland from Nov. 13-14, the Maine Technology Institute Techwalk being held in Bangor on Oct. 2, and Social Media Day Maine, which is being hosted by TideSmart Global in Falmouth on June 30.
