Owner of shuttered Bangor bridal shop owed at least $10K in rent
The plot thickened in the case of House of Brides, the Bangor bridal shop that closed suddenly last week leaving soon-to-be-brides without gowns, deposits or answers.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the owner of House of Brides, Jill Hunter Smith, owed at least $10,000 in back rent as of May 9.
On March 31, the owner of 51 Main St. in Bangor’s downtown, Bangor Property Development LLC, served Smith with a notice to quit, with Smith owing $8,200 in rent, according to the BDN. Smith, however, remained in business for nearly two months, refusing to leave or pay back rent, all the while accruing more unpaid rent, the BDN reports.
Now, the doors of House of Brides remain locked, with landlord Paul Cook wondering exactly what can be done with the dresses, equipment and assorted other items owned by others that are in the store. He’s already fielding inquiries about the high-traffic storefront in Bangor’s downtown.
“I’ve had several inquiries on the property, but there’s a substantial amount of stuff still in the place that we need to sort out,” Cook told the BDN.
Attempts to contact Smith remained unsuccessful, as House of Bride’s Facebook page has been disabled, its phone is non-operational and Smith’s cellphone number has been disconnected.
