Oxford Casino's six-month take: $30M

Oxford Casino is reporting $30 million in net revenues from slot machines and table games after its first six months in business, with almost $13 million returning to the public for education, local government and other uses.

The Sun Journal reported that the casino's slot revenues in November were $4.2 million, a falloff from September, its best month when it took in more than $4.7 million.

The casino in Oxford, which opened on June 5, reported collecting $9.8 million in revenue from gamblers during June and July. That was nearly double the projections of researchers at the Northeast Gaming Research Project at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

Oxford Casino completed its gaming floor expansion in September, increasing slot machines from 529 to 819 and the number of table games from 12 to 22, the newspaper reported.

Under the terms of the referendum approving the casino, 46% of its net slot machine income and 16% of net table game income go to the state through the Gambling Control Board, which then distributes the money to the town of Oxford, schools, Oxford County, harness racing industry, the Penobscot Nation, the Passamaquoddy Tribe and other designated funds.
