$17M CMP project under way in Livermore Falls

Central Maine Power Co. has begun construction on a $17 million expansion to an electrical substation in Livermore Falls.

The new facility, part of CMP's $1.4 billion Maine Power Reliability Program, will connect five 115,000-volt transmission lines to help supply towns in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec and Oxford counties, according to a release.

Once completed, the facility will house eight new 115-kV breakers and a new control house with an enhanced communication system. Site preparation is under way, with contractors from Cianbro and other local companies working to clear trees and vegetation. The company said installation of substation equipment will begin this winter.
