Oxford Plains Speedway to be sold

The Oxford Plains Speedway is under contract to change hands, with the prospective owner expressing confidence he can rejuvenate the popular car racing speedway that has battled a sluggish economy in recent years.

Tom Mayberry, of Naples, is in line to take over the Oxford Plains Speedway from current track owner Bill Ryan in a deal that's expected to close by the end of the week, the Sun Journal reported.  He is the founder and promoter of the Pro All Stars Series, one of New England's most prominent racing tours since 2001 and prior to that was a successful racer at the speedway.

The track is host to the annual Oxford 250 race, which features 38 racers and has in recent years attracted attendance from NASCAR drivers like Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin.

The new racing season in Oxford is set to begin April 20, 2013.
