Park pass sales again top record

The state recorded an all-time sales record for state park passes this year, providing another sign of a strong tourist season in 2012.

The Associated Press reported that the state's Division of Parks and Public Lands sold more than 12,000 day-use passes at the state's parks and historical sites, a record for the 77-year-old park system.

The park system was close to selling that number of passes in both 2010 and 2011, according to a 2011 press release, with both years also breaking previous records by selling close to 11,200 passes each year.

Other figures released in October indicated a strong tourist season for 2012, as the state reported a 7.4% increase in lodging taxes from June to August over last year, as restaurant sales increased 5.3%.
