In the past two years, the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce has gone through some leadership transitions. A leader was hired in 2022 after a nationwide search, then resigned due to personal reasons a year later. He was preceded and followed by an interim director, Gordon Page.
It was a period of transition that followed the departure of CEO Tom Peaco, who led the chamber for seven years before leaving in June 2022.
This week, the chamber said it appointed Shannon Landwehr as president and CEO, following another extensive search and rigorous application process.
“We are confident that Shannon's wealth of experience, unwavering passion and innovative ideas will leave a lasting, positive impact on our region,” said David Gogel, the chamber’s board chair.
The Pen Bay Chamber represents more than 700 area businesses.
Landwehr's tenure begins in April, with duties that include supporting and promoting the prosperity of businesses throughout the region.
A resident of Owls Head, Landwehr has over 20 years of diverse experience in operations, planning, marketing, economic development, budgeting, employee recruitment and retention, fostering board collaboration, and cultivating strong relationships with businesses, communities and statewide partners, according to a news release.
Her most recent positions included global head of shared services for corporate business solutions and business strategy and operations manager for financial services advisor Morgan Stanley, according to her LinkedIn profile.
She has been a COO for Glassman Wealth services in Vienna, Va., and also served as president and CEO of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, a nonprofit economic development group with 400 members.
The board cited Landwehr’s familiarity with Maine and other interests — including the working waterfront, nutritional and mindfulness practices and involvement with community boards — as positioning her as an ideal leader for the chamber.
The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, a Rockland-based nonprofit, has more than 700 members. The state's third-largest chamber, it serves businesses in 27 municipalities in Knox County as a whole and in the general Rockland-Camden area.
