Pen Bay Healthcare President and CEO Roy Hitchings has announced he will retire next year.
Hitchings, 64, has led the Rockport-based health care organization for 13 years and most recently has overseen its transition to becoming a member of MaineHealth, according to a press release from Pen Bay. Hitchings said he is stepping down to spend more time with his family, travel and pursue other interests. He plans to remain in the midcoast area. The Pen Bay board will conduct a national search for a new CEO and will appoint a search committee in the next several weeks, according to the release.
Hitchings' retirement is the latest announcement in a string of hospital leadership changes. Earlier this week, Rumford Hospital CEO John Welsh said he will retire July 1, and Mid Coast Health Services President and CEO Herbert Paris will retire this summer. In April, Goodall Hospital President and CEO Darlene Stromstad announced she will leave the Sanford facility for a job in Connecticut, and David Proffitt resigned as leader of The Acadia Hospital in Bangor.
