Pen Bay Medical pursues energy savings project

Pen Bay Medical Center is undergoing a major energy efficiency project that is expected to save the hospital more than $550,000 per year.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the project was announced by the hospital’s parent organization, Pen Bay Healthcare, on Monday. The hospital is expected to recoup the project’s costs over a six-year period.

The project includes the installation of a new fuel storage tank, the replacement of two smaller tanks that have been converted for liquid propane gas use, the upgrade of burners inside the hospital’s boiler plant and the installation of low-flush toilets that are replacing older ones.
