Penobscot wind farm advances

A developer is moving ahead with plans to build a $25 million, five-turbine wind farm in Penobscot County, after voters nixed levying stricter regulations on wind facilities.

Pisgah Mountain LLC hopes to finish the permitting process for the wind farm in Clifton by early next year and begin working with a construction company once the permits and financing are in hand, spokesman Paul Fuller told the Bangor Daily News. Residents there voted 258-183 against adding amendments to the town's current wind ordinance that would have imposed tighter rules for wind farms, including a property value assurance provision and a townwide limit of five turbines.

Bangor businessman Fuller and his wife, Sandy, bought 270 acres on Pisgah Mountain for the wind farm and formed the LLC along with a handful of other parties, including the former owners of the project site, according to the paper.
