Pittsfield manufacturer prepares for shutdown
UTC Fire & Security’s manufacturing plant in Pittsfield is gearing down activity as it prepares to shut down this spring.
The Morning Sentinel reported that many of the company’s 300 employees have yet to find new jobs nearly a year after the company announced that it would shut down by March 1. UTC said it now plans to operate a few weeks after that, but it didn’t specify a closing date.
At the time of last year’s announcement, UTC offered to relocate up to 100 employees to the company’s plant in Lincolntown, N.C. The company said this week that less than five employees have taken UTC’s offer.
