Poland Spring eyes three areas for $50M bottling plant
Lincoln, Rumford and the greater Fryeburg area are being considered for a $50 million to $60 million Poland Springs bottling plant.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the company hopes to build the plant within the next two to five years, creating 40 to 50 jobs.
Since 2000, Poland Springs, which is owned by Stamford, Conn.-based Nestle Waters North America Inc., has opened bottling plants in Hollis and Kingfield.
It has 900 full-time employees and produces 900 million gallons of water a year, the BDN reported.
Poland Spring reports on its website that it spends $60 million annually in Maine doing business with other Maine businesses. It also invested in 2009 $60 million to open a bottling facility in Kingfield that now has 60 full-time and seasonal employees and over $4 million to construct a spring water project in Fryeburg and Denmark, with more than 90% of the contracts being awarded to Maine contractors.
