Poll: Mainers support racino, oppose term limits

Mainers support a proposed racino in Washington County, but oppose extending legislative term limits, according to a recent opinion poll on the five referenda that will be on the Nov. 6 ballot.

A survey performed by Critical Insights, a market research firm in Portland, found that 56% of Mainers surveyed support putting a harness racing track with slot machines and high-stakes beano games in Washington County. The poll found that 64% of those surveyed do not support extending term limits for legislators from four to six terms. Those polled also voted in favor of the three bond issues that will appear on the ballot.

To compile this report, Critical Insights polled 408 likely voters across the state via telephone from Oct. 21 to Oct. 30. The organization conducts public opinion surveys every spring and fall.
