A Portland-based passenger airline, Elite Airways, is adding a second route between Portland International Jetport and Florida.
Elite will begin nonstop weekend service to and from St. Augustine, at Northeast Florida Regional Airport, on March 26, the carrier said in a news release Monday.
Elite President John Pearsall said, “We believe Mainers will enjoy having a new Florida destination to explore — one with historical landmarks, pristine beaches and world-class golf courses and resorts."
Paul Bradbury, airport director at PWM, added, “We are thrilled to add a brand-new Florida destination to our lineup with Elite Airways. St. Augustine provides easy access to northeast Florida and offers a warm destination for Mainers looking to escape the long winter.”
Elite flights between the Jetport and another Florida city, Vero Beach, will also resume on March 26. They had been suspended last September because of airport construction in Florida.
In addition, Elite flies between the Jetport and White Plains Westchester County Airport in suburban New York City — a service launched last July. Flights are now being added to that route, Elite said in the news release.
Elite Airways LLC operates a fleet of Bombardier CRJ-200, CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 jet airliners with 50, 70 and 90 seats respectively. In addition to its headquarters in Portland, Elite has a maintenance facility at Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport. Founded in 2006, Elite carried 24,000 passengers in 2019.
