The Portland school board on Tuesday voted to approve a new, three-year contract with the teachers union for the city’s 6,800-student school district.
Highlights of the contract include a 1% salary increase in the first year and a 2.5% raise in both the second and third years, according to a news release this week. The contract is retroactive to Aug. 26 and runs through 2022.
The Portland Board of Public Education and the Portland Education Association reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement over the summer, and members of the union recently approved the proposed contract with a 97.5% vote in favor.
The agreement also includes non-economic provisions to make for “more collaborative, effective and efficient operation of the city’s public schools,” according to the release.
Board Chair Roberto Rodriguez said, “This board values and supports our teachers. We are happy we were able to find much common ground with the association and we firmly believe this agreement will lead to better educational outcomes for Portland students.”
