Portland call center plans to fill 120 jobs

Charter Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR) is adding 120 new customer-service jobs at its Portland Call Center to accommodate demand for its Spectrum TV, internet and voice services.

The new jobs will nearly double the number of customer-service representatives at Charter’s local call center, which handles billing inquiries from Spectrum customers in multiple states.

Charter currently has 800 employees in Maine. The company scheduled interviews throughout Tuesday to fill the 120 newly created customer service jobs at its Portland call center.

“Spectrum’s decision to add jobs at its Portland Call Center is a positive boost for the region and demonstrates the importance of having strong corporate citizens devoted to growing the Portland metro economy," state Sen. Mark Dion, D-Portland, said in a news release.

The new positions are expected to support Charter's broadband service, Spectrum, which offers television, internet and voice services. It is also looking for field technicians and direct-sales representatives.

“Our goal is to recruit and retain talented team members who are dedicated to fulfilling Spectrum’s commitment to providing customers with superior TV, internet and voice products backed by outstanding service,” said Dave Rossignol, director of customer service at the Portland site, which is at 901 Washington Ave.

Interviews were scheduled to be held at the site on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Nationally, Stamford, Conn.-based Charter Communications plans to hire 20,000 people, thereby “returning call center jobs to the U.S., in-sourcing its workforce and growing to meet customer demand,” the company said in a news release.

New hires will receive paid comprehensive training, competitive wages and benefits, including medical, 401(k), tuition reimbursement and free/discounted Spectrum services.

Candidates can apply online for positions as customer service representatives, field technicians and direct-sales representatives.
