New Midcoast School of Technology building moves forward
A new 89,400-square-foot building for the Midcoast School of Technology has been approved by the Rockland Planning Board.
The PenBay Pilot reported the new facility is located next to its existing building on Main Street. The estimated $21.5 million project is expected to be completed by September 2019. The old building will be demolished afterward.
The newspaper in February reported the new building will be sited on the existing school’s 6.7-acre property. The new school is a project of the Region 8 Cooperative Board for Vocational Education, whose member Midcoast towns — Islesboro, Rockland, North Haven, Vinalhaven, Waldoboro and Rockport — send high school students to the Rockland school for career and technical education.
According to the school’s website, it offers career and technical programs in programs like automotives, construction, medical science, marine technology and engineering and machining.
