Portland food testing co. acquired

EnviroLogix Inc., a company in Portland that tests food products and pet food ingredients, has been acquired by a Connecticut firm.

Ensign-Bickford Industries Inc., located in Simsbury, announced its subsidiary, EB Analytics, acquired EnviroLogix for an undisclosed sum, according to a press release. EnviroLogix, founded in 1996, manufactures and sells test kits that detect proteins, pathogens and chemical contaminants in plants in the agricultural and veterinary industries. The company also provides test products for genetically modified organisms used in food production. Bruce Ferguson, founder and CEO of EnviroLogix, said the acquisition will give the company the ability to advance new product development, according to the release.

Ensign-Bickford has a number of subsidiaries that operate in the defense and aerospace, pet food, chemical and renewable energy industries.
