Portland-based Migis Hotel Group said Monday that it has purchased a coastal inn in Massachusetts, adding to its portfolio of “upscale hotels and resorts” in Maine and Vermont.
Migis Hotel Group, a family owned and operated hotel management company, said it plans “an extensive upgrade” to the 36-room, historic Emerson Inn by the Sea in Rockport, Mass. The property was opened in 1856 after its first owner, William Norwood, lost his tavern to a raid by a local temperance group, according to historichotels.org.
“We’re excited to be adding this historic waterfront gem to our growing hotel portfolio and introduce the Migis standard of service and hospitality to the northern coast of Massachusetts,” Peter Twachtman, chief operating officer of Migis Hotel Group, said in a statement.
Migis Hotel Group, which was founded in 1968, owns and operates Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake, Black Point Inn on Prouts Neck, The Inn at Ocean’s Edge in Lincolnville, The Sparhawk Oceanfront Resort in Ogunquit and Shire Woodstock in Woodstock, Vt.
