A week after naming a new CEO, Portland law firm Bernstein Shur has added another C-Suite hire.
Starting on Feb. 24, Ali Worster will join the firm as its first-ever chief people officer. She brings more than 15 years of human resources experience, most recently as vice president of human resources at Northern Light Health in Bangor.
Worster also served two stints for General Dynamics at Bath Iron Works, where she was senior manager of labor relations and chief ethics and compliance officer for the defense manufacturer.
“Ali embodies servant-leadership and brings a collaborative approach to strategic hiring and extensive experience in talent development and management,” said Kaveri Subbarao, Bernstein Shur’s incoming CEO. The Pittsburgh attorney will succeed Joan Fortin as head of the firm.
“Adding Ali to our exceptional leadership team will enable us to achieve our growth plan in an accelerated fashion, while strengthening our ability to attract top talent and enhance the services we provide to clients across northern New England and beyond," Subbarao added.
Worster received her juris doctorate from the University of Maine School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee. She also has a master of laws degree from the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University and a graduate certification from Bentley University.
She is a former adjunct professor at Husson University and a guest lecturer at the University of Maine Economics and Healthcare Business Collaborative.
“Bernstein Shur has already earned its reputation as one of the best places to work in Maine by building and maintaining an outstanding culture and an unwavering commitment to both community and client service,” Worster said. “My goal is to continue to build on this legacy."
Bernstein Shur is ranked No. 2 among Maine's largest law firms in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists, just behind Drummond Woodsum. Rankings were based on the number of Maine-based attorneys at the time of the survey.
