Portland named as one of top ‘Startup Cities’

Portland is one the nation’s best cities to start a new business, according to Popular Mechanics magazine, which named the city in its February edition.

The magazine chose Portland as the fourth best city in its “Startup Cities” feature, citing the spate of new food- and beer-related businesses that have popped up over the past few years.

“The day-to-day interaction among these people may be casual, but they're all striving toward a common, if unspoken, goal: improving Portland through establishing new businesses, and making the city a magnet for innovators,” writes Popular Mechanics writer Joe Bargmann. “Among them are restaurateurs, organic farmers, craft brewers and small-batch distillers who have made Portland a model for the local-food movement.”
