Portland to honor five businesses for economic contributions

Portland's Developers Collaborative and its founder, Kevin Bunker, will be honored along with four other businesses this week by the city of Portland the the Portland Development Corp. for their role in expanding the city's economic vitality and quality of life.

Bunker's company, a real estate development and management company that has redeveloped the Nathan Clifford School into apartments and the Motherhouse Sisters of Mercy site into affordable and market-rate rental senior housing, will receive the 2019 Economic Development and Achievement Award.

Other recipients are Paradigm Window Solutions, Legacy of the Year Award; Bayside Bowl, Small Business of the Year Award; travel and expense software company Certify Inc., Business of the Year Award; and Drifters Wife restaurant, Portland Development Corp. Client of the Year Award.

“All of these businesses play a vital role in ensuring we have a healthy and growing economy, and it’s my pleasure to recognize them for their contributions to our great city,” said Mayor Kate Snyder. “The award recipients are credited with having significant impacts on the vitality of Portland’s economy through affordable housing and smart growth, windows that match our diverse climate, innovative cloud-based software solutions, fun entertainment, and delicious food and wine.”   

Awards will be presented at an event this Wednesday, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Ocean Gateway, where the mayor will be joined by Portland City Council members, Economic Development Chair Justin Costa, City Economic Development Staff, and company awardees will be joined by their constituencies, representatives from the city’s housing and business communities.

The event, which is free of charge, is also open to any member of the public interested in attending.
