Pot org. changes marketing, name

A nonprofit group planning to open a medical marijuana dispensary in Ellsworth is changing its name and its marketing plan following complaints from residents and state officials.

Primary Organic Therapy Inc. has ended a telemarketing campaign that began earlier this month, after residents complained about the computerized calls, which asked if they wanted more information about obtaining medical marijuana, according to the Portland Press Herald. After receiving word from the licensing division of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services about the complaints, Primary Organic Therapy stopped the calls within 48 hours.

The company, which had been using the acronym POT Inc., also decided to change its name, after state officials raised concerns that it could offend people. John Montgomery, a company investor, told the paper the company felt the name was "catchy and good for marketing," but would choose a new name this week.
