Potpourri Group acquires Cuddledown

Bedding manufacturer Cuddledown will become part of the Massachusetts-based Potpourri Group Inc. in a purchase by the private equity firm American Capital.

Cuddledown, founded in Yarmouth in 1973, makes synthetic and down-filled bedding products including comforters, pillows, sheets and sleepwear, which it sells through its catalog and stores in Yarmouth and Freeport.

American Capital's Helen Yang, a principal with the firm's buyouts group, said in a press release that it is building its investment in Potpourri Group, a portfolio of 13 brands, to cater to a fast-growing and attractive demographic of middle- to upper-middle income female baby boomers.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
