Project aims to boost ME tech grads

The business-led coalition Educate Maine has launched a new project with the University of Maine intended to double the number of Maine graduates in computer science and technology fields.

The initiative, called Project>Login, was announced Thursday as it unveiled a new website highlighting internships, events and career opportunities related to computer science, computer engineering and information technology fields, according to a press release.

The project gained support from some of the state's largest companies and organizations, including WEX, Idexx, Bangor Savings Bank and Eastern Maine Medical Center, among others.

"We're facing a growing lack of skilled employees in these fields right now, and we need you on our teams," WEX CEO Mike Dubyak said in a prepared statement.

Educate Maine says it plans to use Project>Login as a model for future efforts to address the skills gap in the state.
