Quoddy Bay ducks out

One of three companies vying for a liquefied natural gas terminal in eastern Maine has for now abandoned the effort.

Oklahoma-based Quoddy Bay LNG withdrew its request this week for state permits for an LNG terminal on the Passamaquoddy Indian reservation at Pleasant Point, according to the Associated Press. The company notified the state after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission dismissed Quoddy Bay's application because the company hadn't provided the agency with required information.

Quoddy Bay's president told the AP the company plans "to refile in the near future, but [is] uncertain of the dates due to the world LNG supply and demand situation." Two other LNG proposals are still active -- Calais LNG and Downeast LNG, though Downeast LNG, while it has a permit pending before FERC, withdrew its application with the state last year.
