Developer Arthur House has unveiled plans to turn the former Stinson Seafood Co. property in Belfast into a hotel, restaurant and retail complex.
House does not own the property yet, but told VillageSoup.com he is within a week of finalizing a deal to assume ownership of the 3.6-acre property from current owners Old Belfast Bridge LLC. He said he plans to break ground in December on the Belfast Harbor Crossing Resort and Marina, which would include a three-floor, 40-unit hotel with a pool and conference facilities, several restaurants and a pub, and retail and office space. House said he plans to sell a large warehouse at the south end of the property to Belfast Boatyard.
The property was used as a sardine cannery for 90 years, but has been vacant since July 2006, when Old Belfast Bridge LLC abandoned plans for a 22-unit condominium complex. In June, the property went on the auction block, attracting a high bid of $850,000 but no sale, according to VillageSoup.
