Rain and overnight winds knock out power to thousands of customers in Maine

Central Maine Power reported about 14,000 customers were without power after the rain and high winds of Dec. 11.
Thousands of customers were without power Thursday morning after steady rain and overnight winds up to 60 miles per hour.
Central Maine Power reported that 14,000 customers were without power as of 11 a.m. Thursday, with power restored to more than 51,000.
Versant Power reported that about 60,000 customers were without power as of 11 a.m. Thursday, with the greatest concentration of outages was in Aroostook, Hancock and Piscataquis counties.
At 5 a.m., Versant issued the following note to customers, via its website: "After high winds swept through our service territory last night and this morning, crews are prioritizing public safety issues like downed lines. Along with addressing public safety issues, crews are assessing damage, which is necessary for us to plan to bring the most customers online at a time. At this time, restoration is expected to continue over several days."
