Recreational marijuana opponents moving ahead with recount request

Courtesy / Flickr, MarihuanayMedicina Opponents of legalizing the recreational use of marijuana are moving forward with their plans to request a recount of election results.

Opponents against the legalization of recreational marijuana have acquired petition papers from the secretary of state's office and have begun collecting signatures as they look to request a recount of votes because the “unofficial” margin of votes is too close.

WCSH6-TV reported that the margin between the two camps is approximately 4,400 votes, or half of 1%, is too close to call for legalization opponents, adding that The No On 1 campaign has said that it has received many requests to continue fighting legalization, according to the Associated Press.

Secretary of State Matt Dunlap told WCSH that while very few recounts change a race’s outcome, it would provide closure to a tight race. If the recount still rules in favor of the legalization camp, the AP reported that home cultivation could be legal by Christmas.
