Redistricting plan gets unanimous committee OK
A plan to remap Maine's 186 legislative districts received unanimous committee approval Friday.
The Kennebec Journal reported the new maps, based on 2010 census data, make modest changes to Maine's existing districts.
Generally, Maine's urban areas gained population while rural populations declined.
Democrats and Republicans have said the maps represent a fair compromise. The redistricting plan would need two-thirds approval in both the House and Senate by June 11.
