Regulators: Racino can open Sunday mornings

The Maine Gambling Control Board yesterday voted 5-0 to allow Hollywood Slots in Bangor to operate on Sunday mornings.

Wyomissing, Pa.-based Penn National Gaming, which owns the racino, said opening four hours earlier on Sunday would generate $700,000 to $1 million more in annual revenues, which could yield an extra $350,000 to $500,000 in taxes for the state, according to the Associated Press.

The request did draw fire from clergy and the Maine Family Policy Council, but the board determined there was no basis to deny the request, the AP said.
