Rep. Michaud creates composites caucus

Rep. Mike Michaud today announced the creation of the Congressional Composites Caucus to "ensure the industry has a strong voice in Congress."

The Composites Caucus will feed up-to-date information on how the composites industry is aiding the economy nationally and in each congressional district to members of Congress, according to a press release from Michaud's office. "Composites are representative of American ingenuity, and represent a meaningful part of America's 21st century economy," Michaud said. "The Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine is a national leader in composites development ... The establishment of the Composites Caucus will help to ensure that institutions like the University of Maine receive the funding that they need to research and develop the materials and technologies of America's future."

Composites, which are materials made up of two or more substances with varying physical characteristics, are used in the aerospace, transportation and manufacturing industries, among others.
