Repeal of guns-at-work law fails

The Maine Senate voted against repealing a 2011 law that allows people with concealed weapons permits to bring guns to work, if the guns remain out of sight in a locked vehicle, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The repeal effort had support from the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and other business interest groups that argued the law took away an employer's choice to determine a policy around employees bringing guns onto company property.

Supporters of the 2011 law argued that limits on a person's ability to carry a concealed gun in their car would limit that person's self-defense capabilities.
