Report: Windpower, wildlife can get along

One of the state’s foremost wildlife advocacy groups issued a report Wednesday outlining areas where it says wind power developments are least likely to interfere with animal habitats and movement.

The Falmouth-based Maine Audubon study found that around 933,000 of the 1.1 million acres in the state have enough wind to support turbines could be developed with little wildlife impact, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The report evaluated only impacts on wildlife — like bats and birds — from the wind turbines, which it said have ample space to expand without interfering with development. The report stated that its findings rule out the need for site-by-site reviews for wind power projects.
