Restart planned for Paris modular facility

A modular building manufacturer is expected to reopen a Paris plant next month, restoring as many as 50 jobs.

KBS Building Systems plans to reopen the former Waterford Homes plant, which the South Paris-based company bought in late 2007 and closed eight months later, according to the Sun Journal. Sales Manager Mike Hamm told the paper the company has won some commercial modular projects, including a 290-unit multi-family complex in Massachusetts, that will allow the facility to run until 2011 and bring the company's total sales to $45 million by the end of 2010. About 40 to 50 workers will be hired, including some of the 60 employees laid off when the facility closed.

KBS bought the 17-acre Waterford Homes property from a Massachusetts firm after the company closed in 2006, and reopened it in 2008 with 20 new workers. But the poor economy led KBS to shut down the facility later that year, according to the paper.
