Retail, housing proposed for former Bath YMCA lot

Courtesy / City of Bath A view of the lot where the Bath YMCA formerly stood for 100 years before being demolished in 2012. The city is now reviewing two development proposals for the lot, which is located at the north end of the city's downtown district.

Housing and multi-use development were recently proposed for the vacant former YMCA lot in Bath.

The Forecaster reported two redevelopment proposals were presented to the City Council:

  • The Newheight Group of Portland, in conjunction with Portland-based Community Housing of Maine, presented a proposal for mixed-use development with market rate housing and commercial/retail space.
  • Portland-based Szanton Co., in partnership with the Bath Housing organization, proposed a mixed-income rental housing project.

The city tore down the YMCA building in 2012. Residences, professional and corporate offices, and businesses were among potential uses listed in the city’s request for proposals, The Forecaster reported.

“I am so thrilled that we have two amazing proposals here tonight,” Council Chairwoman Mari Eosco said following the presentations.
