Revived furniture maker calls it quits

A furniture manufacturing facility in northern Maine is on the auction block after the investors who restarted it decided to stop production.

Moosehead Furniture Co. in Monson has been put up for auction by Machias Savings Bank, according to the Bangor Daily News. Keenan Auction Co. will accept bids for the property, equipment, vehicles and company name until Jan. 21. Formerly Moosehead Manufacturing Co., the company closed in 2007 but that same year was bought by Tardy-Connors LLC, a group of investors led by Maine House of Representatives Republican Leader Joshua Tardy and Maine State Chamber of Commerce President Dana Connors.  The group restarted production in Monson and hired back 40 workers, making it the town's largest employer.

But the company said the economy forced the group to stop production a couple of months ago. Tardy told the paper the company hopes to find an investor who could revive the plant before the auction.
