Richardson announces for governor

John Richardson, Maine's commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development for nearly three years, is the latest candidate to announce a run for the Blaine House.

Richardson, a Democrat and former speaker of the Maine House, stressed job creation in announcing his bid for the governor's office. He cited his ability to secure bonds for economic development and affordable housing among his legislative accomplishments during his eight years serving the Brunswick area, and as commissioner, touted accomplishments developing links among community development, tourism, innovation and international trade.

In his speech, he said Maine needs to do a better job capitalizing on its natural resource advantages and adopt policies that encourage job growth and a sound economy.
