Spring Point Marina in South Portland and Yachting Solutions LLC in Rockland will receive more than $1.8 million in federal boating infrastructure grants, leveraging an additional $1.6 million in non-federal matching investments.
Funded through taxes and fees on motorboat fuel and related equipment, the grants are administered by the National Park Service.
Maine Department of Environmental Protection also will receive $405,280 in Clean Vessel Act funds to install or upgrade 10 pump-out stations, provide operation and maintenance stipends to pump-out boats and stationary facilities and distribute educational materials to boaters and boating facilities.
“Maine marinas are a critical part of our state’s working waterfront. In serving vessels that are traveling along the coast, they directly support hundreds of jobs and help connect thousands of customers to local economies,” U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-1st District Maine, said in a news release. “I’m glad marinas in Rockland and South Portland will be able to use these federal investments to grow the number of vessels they can serve. Clean Vessel Act funds will also enable the state to grow and maintain vital pumpout stations that keep waste out of Maine waters.”
