A Rockport businessman has been ordered to repay his former Pearl River, N.Y.-based employer nearly $5 million for money he allegedly bilked over a 14-year period.
The Bangor Daily News reported that Jason T. Throne, owner of Patent Services Group Inc., agreed to repay the amount as part of a settlement with international window treatment company Hunter Douglas Inc. that was filed on Nov. 21 in U.S. District Court in Colorado. Throne’s wife, Mary, was initially named in the Hunter Douglas lawsuit, but has since been dropped as a party to the lawsuit.
The settlement comes after Hunter Douglas filed a lawsuit against the Thrones in June. It claimed that Jason T. Throne, who served as Hunter Douglas' senior patent lawyer for more than 20 years, billed the company through Patent Services Group, a Rockport-based company he formed with his wife in 1999, for work that was allegedly never performed. The Thrones collected checks from Hunter Douglas between 2000 and 2014 that amounted to at least $4.8 million, according to the lawsuit.
