Rockport companies plan expansions

Two Rockport businesses are planning expansions that could total more than $4 million.

Rockport Marine has proposed a roughly $3 million project that includes building a new boat hoist that can haul heavier watercrafts, and construction of a pier and storage building, VillageSoup reported. Yachting Solutions, which is in the process of buying an established yacht manufacturer and moving its operations to Maine, has proposed a $1.2 million composite manufacturing production line. Combined, the projects could bring 15 new jobs to the area.

The Rockport Select Board is seeking two grants totaling $300,000 from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development to assist the projects, and has scheduled a public hearing on the application for Feb. 23, according to the town manager.
