A Rockport entrepreneur who led one of the highest funded Kickstarter campaigns in Maine is suing his business partner for abandoning their high-tech sunglasses venture.
The Bangor Daily News reported that John Galley filed the lawsuit in Knox County Superior Court against Kirk Kreutzig of Woodridge, Ill., last Friday. Galley claims that Kreutzig, who had originally agreed to manufacture the sunglasses, disavowed his relationship with Galley, causing both parties to lose more than $32.8 million in expected profits over the next 13 years.
Galley, who was profiled by Mainebiz in September, said in the lawsuit that the sales projection for the ORION4Sight sunglasses was based on the rate of sales through the Kickstarter campaign, which raised $348,449 in September. At the time it was the highest amount raised for a Kickstarter campaign based in Maine.
Galley alleges that Kreutzig, who he has known for more than 50 years, diverged from the partnership’s original 50:50 profit-sharing proposal by insisting on having full ownership of the business. Galley alleges that Kreutzig then left the partnership, stating that he is not interested in creating and selling consumer eyeglasses.
Galley’s lawsuit is seeking a court injunction that would protect Galley’s interest in the business and a court order to require the sunglasses to be manufactured.
Kreutzig told the BDN on Tuesday that he couldn't comment on the lawsuit because he was unaware of it at the time.
