Rosemont Market & Bakery will permanently close its Thompson's Point location in Portland, with the last day tentatively scheduled for Jan. 7.
"Rosemont Market & Bakery will be closing our Thompson's Point Market & Wine Bar permanently as of January 2023," said Holly Martzial, director of marketing, in a Dec. 19 Instagram post. "Our departure will provide us the opportunity to allocate resources from this location toward our seven other neighborhood markets."
"We have enjoyed our time at Thompson's Point working with their team as well as the exemplary businesses on campus," Martial said. "We look forward to continuing to work in collaboration with them all as we remain engaged in the Greater Portland community."
When asked via email for more details about why the market is closing, Martial declined to answer, referring to the Instagram post.
The Thompson's Point shop at at 42 Resurgam Place was open for a little over a year and a half near Stroudwater Distillery, Rwanda Bean Coffee and Bissell Brothers Brewing. The company operates three markets in Portland as well as markets in Yarmouth, Falmouth, Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough, which opened last year in the former fire station.
Rosemont Market & Bakery specializes in local and regional produce, baked goods, meats, dairy and fish.
The market is the second company that's announced its departure from Thompson's Point. The International Cryptozoology Museum announced a few weeks ago that the museum would be moving to Bangor next year.
