Sanford construction co. sues Ocean Bank

A Sanford construction company is suing Ocean Bank, alleging the Portsmouth-based bank was negligent after hackers illegally transferred more than $500,000 from the company's bank accounts.

Patco Construction is suing the bank on six counts based on liability, negligence, breaches of contract and fiduciary duty and unjust enrichment, according to Current Publishing. Patco wants the bank to return $345,000 that was not recovered from the $588,851 cyber thieves were able to swipe from its accounts, as well as the repay the interest the company is being charged for now needing to use of its line of credit, the news website reported. Officials from Ocean Bank, which is owned by People's United Bank in Bridgeport, Conn., would not comment on the lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed Sept. 18 on the business and consumer docket in York County Superior Court.
