State offers $9M for energy efficiency projects

Two state organizations are making $9 million available in a competitive grant program to businesses who want to become more energy efficient.

Efficiency Maine and the state's Energy and Carbon Savings Trust, which holds the state's revenue from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative auctions, are accepting applications for large-scale energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, according to a press release. Applications will be evaluated based on energy savings, greenhouse gas savings, economic impacts, such as job creation and retention, and the readiness of the project. Awards are expected to range from $100,000 to $1 million. The application deadline is Nov. 4.

Efficiency Maine is funding this program through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds and the Energy and Carbon Savings Trust is funding it through the RGGI auction revenue.
